The Franklin Mine name was eventually applied to the Franklin Junior Mine, which was different. The Franklin Mining company purchased land from the Albany & Boston Mining Company and renamed it Franklin Junior. [GGAI] The Franklin Junior mine was closed in 1920. The company was dissolved in 19334.

The Franklin mine was "boxed in" by the Quincy mining property which purchased the property to the north and west.

Notes

Franklin Mine was located north of the Quincy Mine on the Pewabic Amygdaloid. The mine was first operated in 1857 and had two shafts. It was a profitable mine.


Time Line

1867. The Franklin new tram-road was first used on Monday of this week. The locomotive has been overhauled and makes good time. [DFP-1867-0104]

1887. Forest fires are raging along the highlands of Portage Lake, between the canal and West Hancock it is doing heavy damage. The location of the Hancock mine is in imminent danger, and a large force is fighting hard near Quincy, Franklin and Pewabic mines. Thousands of cords of wood are burned, the wind is stiff and forest dry. [DFP-1887-0519]
