  • June 24: RailAmerica's Mid-Michigan Railroad abandons operations on 15.83 miles of the old Detroit & Milwaukee/GTW line between Lowell and Ionia. They pull the last railcar, an empty tank car of anhydrous ammonia fertilizer from Ionia. Ionia Standard Lumber and Gallagher's Farm Service were the last two customers in town. Both used rail service only intermittently. [MRC-07/08]
