Timetable: MCRR - DT&M Branch - Allegan to Moscow

The Detroit, Toledo & Milwaukee railroad was split during bankruptcy into two seperate sections. This section, from Allegan to Moscow (in northeast Hillsdale County) was assigned to the Michigan Central railroad. The eastern section from Moscow to Dundee was assigned to the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern/NYC.

Time Line

1871. The line from Allegan to Monteith is completed by the Mansfield, Coldwater & Lake Michigan. [MRL]

1877. The MC&LM is purchased by the Allegan & South Eastern. [MRL]

1883. The A&SE is purchased by the Michigan & Ohio railroad.

1883. The line is extended from Monteith to Dundee by the Michigan & Ohio railroad. [MRL]

1887. The Cincinnati, Jackson & Mackinaw purchases the M&O. The railroad is reorganized in 1891. [MRL]

1897. The CJ&M is reorganized as the Toledo & Milwaukee railroad and is renamed one month later as the Detroit, Toledo & Milwaukee. [MRL]

1897. The Chicago & West Michigan announces that they have leased the Allegan branch of the road from Allegan to Holland to the Detroit, Toledo & Milwaukee Railroad Co., the lease to take effect December 1, 1897. A trackage arrangement has been consummated between the two roads so that DT&M trains will go through from Allegan via Holland to Grand Haven using the C&WM track. This includes both passenger and freight trains. [DFP-1897-1124]

1899. The line is leased to the Cincinnati Northern railway. [MRL]

1905. The line is leased to the Michigan Central and the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern jointly. [MRL]. Each ran an equal segment of the road with the dividing point being at the Marshall shops. After the MC part of the line was sold in 1913 from west of Battle Creek to Allegan, the middle demarcation was moved to Moscow.

1932. The line is abandoned from Dundee to Marshall via Tecumseh. [MRL]

1968. The line is leased to Penn Central, and then taken over by Conrail in 1976, and purchased by Norfolk Southern in 1999.
