Amtrak Swing Bridge in Michigan City, IN  2001  [Tim Shanahan]

Location: Trail Creek Bridge, Michigan City, IN - (Amtrak)

This swing bridge is a truss design which at one time held two tracks.  The bridge crosses rail Creek.  According to accounts, the bridge was built about 1905 when the Michigan Central Railroad main line to Chicago was double tracked.  The bridge has only one track installed today.  It is owned by Amtrak and is used by Chicago passenger trains as well as local freight service by Norfolk Southern.
