Port of Grosse Isle

The Port of Grosse Isle hosted a railroad car ferry operation across the Detroit River, connecting Amherstberg, Ontario with Stony Island. This was a significant crossing of the Michigan Central and Canada Southern railroads between the two countries in the 1880's and continued until 1888 when cross river operations were moved to the Detroit-Windsor Windsor area. The Detroit tunnel was opened around 1908.

The railroad had a fixed Howe truss bridge between Stony Island and Grosse Isle, and a swing bridge connecting the west shore of Grosse Isle and Slocum Junction near Trenton.
