Above, a 2003
photo of the former Detroit & Mackinac Railway freight "house" at
Cheboygan. The building is a former troop car and it has
recently been repainted. It served as an office for the D&M
freight agent, and was particularly busy before the D&M bought the MCRR line up the center of the state. Prior to that purchase,
the D&M ended at Cheboygan, where the road served the paper plant.

Below, another view
of the engine house. The track going off to the right leads to
the Cheboygan waterfront. In the early days, passengers
departed from the docks for Mackinac Island. [Charles Geletzke] |
