"Strong arm"
levers 6 through 11 at the Delray Tower interlocking plant in
southwest Detroit. Delray is a CSX staffed tower which
controls former New York Central, Pere Marquette, Union Belt of
Detroit and Wabash lines. The current tower, which is one of
the last remaining staffed interlocking towers in the Detroit area,
was built in 1945. At one time, the levers controlled pipes
which operated switches and signals. Now, all signals and
switches are electrically operated, but the lever frame prohibits
conflicting train moves. 2003 photo.
